![]() Enertropic therapy |
A form of energy medicine called Enertropic Therapy is being developed through this office, and is now spreading to other parts of the country. This is a powerful method of healing, and very useful for pain relief. The following is some basics about this form of treatment.
ENERTROPIC THERAPY -- BASIC THEORY
We know that we have a circulatory system and a nervous system, an endocrine system, and even a detoxification system. We also have a healing system, although it has been more elusive and much less researched. In an age of quick pharmaceutical cures, the fact that we are self-healing beings with a healing system even seems to have been forgotten in some quarters. We are electrical beings, as well. EKG's, EEG's and EMG's are every day occurrences in mainstream medicine, each measuring a form of electrical output from our body. What is less well known, even considered controversial, is that a healthy flow of electricity through the tissues of our bodies is necessary for optimal health. Electricity is certainly a key part of the healing system of the body. The human energy field has been measured extensively by Dr. Valerie Hunt in decades of experimental work at UCLA. Her book, Infinite Mind, is a fascinating account of her research, and is illustrated with examples of oscilloscope-derived readings of the energy fields. She continues to this day as Professor Emeritus to study different levels of human energy and how these apply to healing, including energy flow in the tissues, in the energy field of the body, and in the "thought field." Dr. Laule feels privileged to have had a lengthy conversation with Dr. Hunt about Enertropic Therapy, and confirmation of some of her theories about it. Dr. Hunt even suggested the possibility of future collaboration in research on this technique at her research facilities in Malibu. Enertropic Therapy deals with the electrical flow in the tissues. Dr. Robert Becker, renowned orthopedic surgeon and researcher, explored this form of electricity, developing such concepts as the "current of injury," and even creating partial regeneration of a limb in a frog by putting it in the correct electrical environment. His book, Body Electric, is a fascinating first hand account of his research. Some of his work is now applied in a hospital setting in cases of persistent nonunion of a fracture, particularly of the femur. By applying a DC current across the fracture site, the bones will be induced to heal. He reports that toward the end of his research, as the grant money was running out, he was beginning to explore the piezoelectric potential of the connective tissues, including the connective tissue lining of the nerves. This, he began to believe, was a very important part of the "healing system." Piezoelectric energy is also known as "pressure electricity." A quartz crystal contains this form of electricity. Putting pressure on the crystal, deforming it slightly, liberates the electricity, creating enough flow to run a crystal radio or a quartz watch. Our connective tissues have a structure somewhat similar to a crystal, and have been proven without a doubt to have piezoelectric potential. The connective tissues are the tendons, ligaments, fascia, the membranes surrounding each organ, and even the cell membranes surrounding each cell of the body. Connective tissues touches connective tissue throughout the entire body, making it the only entirely contiguous system in the body. Even at the level of the skull, there are connective tissue fibers around the muscles at the back of the neck that pass through the base of the skull and attach to the connective tissue of the dura mater. In the past, this tissue has been presumed to merely be a structure that holds everything together, and other than in certain auto-immune diseases, was not thought to hold any particular implications for health and disease. Even its piezoelectric potential is not widely recognized. What some of us are postulating is that this electrical potential is a key part of health. Apparently, optimal health occurs only when this electricity is actually flowing through the tissues. Several great minds, including Dr. Valerie Hunt, and Dr. William Tiller, are beginning to explain health in terms of this flow. Various methods of the use of sound, magnetic energy, and touch probably exert their healing influences by creating an electric flow in the connective tissues.

| ||||
Pressure on any two areas of the grid apparently causes energy to move. The energy will move toward the point with the greatest pain. Generally, it is desirable to have the energy flowing downward (distally). One pressure point is almost always a digit, either a finger or toe. Once the area of discomfort on the digit is found, only enough pressure is required to create more discomfort than the point of treatment on the body, so the energy will flow the correct direction. The electrical flow is a movement of electrons through the connective tissues which then exit the body out the fingers or toes, creating the flare around the digits seen in a healthy person's aura. More electrons are taken in with each breath, renewing the system's energy. Unlike some other systems, which balance the energy within the person's body, this therapy balances the person within universal energy. Breathing techniques can be helpful. Sometimes a persistent blockage to flow will release when the person takes a deep breath, thus renewing the flow of negative ions into the body. Presumably working in an atmosphere containing a high level of negative ions would also enhance the therapy, although we have not specifically explored that issue.
This grid pattern is not the same as the acupuncture meridians, although there are points that overlap. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, chi is considered to be magnetic and flows in the meridians. Another energy described as shen is electrical and flows through the tissues. It is a more personal energy, while chi is more transpersonal. We think we are working with shen. It is interesting to compare ancient Chinese traditional wisdom about health with our leading edge science. Dr. William Tiller has recalculated Einstein's general relativity equations, removing the speed of light as a limiting factor. Mathematically, these equations describe an "energy" which is omnipresent and meets many of the conditions a mystic would use to define "the etheric." It sounds very much like chi, and also has a strange, nonferro-magnetic quality. We have already discussed the existence of piezoelectric potential in the connective tissues, which sounds very much like shen. A generator works by moving a magnet across a material (such as copper) that has the potential for electrical flow. Could chi moving in the acupuncture meridians be the life force that triggers flow in the piezoelectric potential in our connective tissues? Thus this system becomes, possibly, the very essence of the mechanism through which we "live, move and have our being," the point at which physical and nonphysical aspects of life intersect. In other words, we are in sacred territory here, and should treat this part of our healing system accordingly. Sacred doesn't need to imply piety, however. We endeavor to bring joy and laughter to the treatment table. Laughter, in fact, can really create some great energy flow, and help break through difficult blockages. A sense of the sacred merely reminds us to act with honor and humility, to remember our vast interconnectedness, to love unconditionally, and to remain in a mindset of joyful service to others.
